True, after a few months it turned a little brown at the bottom where the heating element is, but since you can easily scrub the brown away I assume it is a deposit of iron oxide from the water rather than corrosion of the kettle. We also use it to heat water for pasta, etc. It works very well. I got it for MUCH less than it is currently listed for ($199). On amazon I paid about $70, so it was worth that. I have had the kettle for over a year now and use it at least 3 times every day and it works perfectly. I even take it with me on trips and use it in my hotel room. The reviews when we bought it stated that it was heavy. This is true compared to other kettles I have owned in the past but should not put anybody off. It has a nice look and boils in a reasonable time.
