I have tried one of the cast iron units and it worked fine except it took forever to heat up and cool down, was a pain the you know what to clean, and stained the cast iron top the first time I used it. This model heats up and cools down the same as my home ceramic range and is a piece of cake to clean. Love how light weight it is and the dual heating function. Highly recommended. ...more

[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-05-28 Summary: Very Good Product ... I have been waiting for Broil King to develop a decent single burner hotplate, one that will hold a boil or a simmer to a desired level. I have bought and thrown away several of their BuffetRange hotplates. They are a waste of money. They would cause water to boil over,making a real mess out of the exposed coils. The supposed incremental dial does not work. The power to the heating element is either on or off, regardless of where you set the dial. I've only used The PHR1 a few times but so far it works exactly as claimed. ...more
