The magnets on the base allow for easy placement on a vent hood or refrigerator. The unit never turns off, which, while conserving battery life, is somewhat disconcerting at first. The probe is removable and has a 90 degree bend at the end of it, to allow for easier placement in food items. The cord is fairly long and allows for placement near anywhere. Just stretch them over your cook and they hold your stuff. And they really tolerate the heat. I used some on a chicken rotisserie to keep the extremities bound.
