We are a big fan of boiled and poached eggs but I tended to cook boiled eggs too long and I didn't like cleaning up the nonstick holders for my egg poacher. With this you can time the eggs perfectly. I did burn myself once dumping the water so I would suggest waiting until it cools if possible but overall, it has been a great purchase.. and it doesn't tale up much space at all if you are worried about yet ANOTHER appliance like I as! ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-04-08 Summary: There is a difference between boiled and steamed ... I never thought I would be praising the virtues of an egg cooker until I had an egg that had been steamed. Wow, what a difference. Even cooked to the hard state, both the white and yolk are melt in your mouth soft and tender. A completely different texture than you get with boiling. The steamed eggs are also easy to peel and this cooker doesn't require piercing the shell, like others do. Once you've steam eggs, you won't ever want to go back to boiling them. ...more

I leave the lid open a bit and have not had a problem. 2 eggs, 60 seconds, leave in for a bit. So this little item has had quite a workout in our home, probably poaching hundreds of eggs, until one of the hinges broke off.
